Caribbean Feeder Services Ltd.

The Idea
Caribbean Feeder Services Ltd. (CFS) owes its foundation in 1999 to a simple observation: In most cases the container traffic between the central principal ports of Kingston as well as Caucedo and the minor regional ports in the Caribbean is far too inefficient and expensive for the individual freight companies. That gap is filled by CFS. As with a liner schedule CFS links up a fixed route of ports at regular intervals within the scope of its "bus driver concept", thus providing major Caribbean container shipping lines with higher planning reliability. If necessary, other ports and additional tonnage can be integrated in order to provide a flexible response to customers' requirements.

The Concept
The key to the success of CFS is just as simple as it is impressive: independence. CFS is in a unique position, because the company prefers not to own containers itself and therefore solely focusses its activities on the provision of container slots. The liner service is open to all market participants and therefore consolidates the necessary volume of cargo to make the shipping operation economical. While in the first complete year of operations 50,000 TEU have been shipped, CFS is now the largest independent feeder service in the Caribbean with a total annual transport volume of approximately 300,000 TEU.

The People
In addition to Peter Harren, a captain and business graduate, the team of founders comprises Frank R. Wellnitz and Andreas Schorlemmer, who have been based in the Caribbean for over 20 years. In addition to their extensive expertise of the shipping business they have specific knowledge of the Caribbean markets and flows of goods, which is indispensable for successfully operating a feeder service registered there. Apart from maritime know-how the company is particularly founded on its reliable network of regional business partners.
