Ship Management

The main role of Ship Management is to ensure the smooth running of the entire fleet. At the same time, the management of both proprietary and external tonnage lies in the hands of Harren & Partner Ship Management GmbH & Co. KG. In order to guarantee optimum fleet management, a specialist team handles matters solely related to “his” segment – be it heavy lift carriers, dock ships, tankers, bulkers or container feeder vessels – while the Operating, Purchasing and Inspection departments work closely together as a team, guaranteeing speed and efficiency.

By closely networking the departments on different “decks” in the Bremen offices, various processes can be closely coordinated and high quality standards ensured, both at sea and ashore. These primarily include:

Safety & Quality

Safety & Quality

The requirements in respect of safety and quality of ships in international waters have increased over recent years. All vessels of the Harren & Partner fleet are certified pursuant to the ISM Code as well as the ISPS Code. In addition, the company`s quality management secures the safety and quality of the fleet, their crews and the environment. The high quality standards of Harren & Partner Ship Management are also reflected by the successful implementation of TMSA (Tanker Management Self-Assessment). Furthermore, conforming to the requirements specified in the standards ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, the shipping group underlines its quality claims.

Projects

Projects/Newbuildings

Newbuilding projects as well as secondhand purchases can only be managed successfully if all parties involved work in close cooperation with each other. Our experienced captains and engineers offer a variety of services ranging from yard selection and yard support to the evaluation and inspection of secondhand tonnage in order to provide a solid basis for a fleet´s growth.

Crewing

Crewing/Career

The Crewing department makes sure each ship has the best crew possible by carefully selecting and extensively training staff. The department is also responsible for taking out the necessary insurance policies. Furthermore, the team is well versed in dealing with visa matters and coordinates crew carriage to locations all over the world. Innovative in-house training ensures a team of highly skilled H&P staff at sea and ashore in the long term: our up-and-coming cadets and nautical officers (m/f) gain practical experience on board a ship specially built for training purposes – the “HANSE EXPLORER”.

Operating

Operating

The operating department offers a wide range of services required during daily operations worldwide. It represents the link between the vessel, the charterer and the shipping company and coordinates all operating activities to meet our customers´ needs in a constantly changing market. In addition, various agency and broker services are offered.

Inspection

Inspection

The Inspection department covers the technical and nautical supervision of different types of vessel, ensuring their smooth operation by carrying out regular visits on board and closely supervising shipyard stays. A maintenance and repair team designed to cater to the specific needs of the shipping group also enables maintenance, repairs and modifications to be carried out cost-effectively at sea.

Purchasing

Purchasing/Supply

The Purchasing department is closely linked to the Inspection and Operating departments, ensuring all the requirements of the H&P fleet are met – from initial equipment to the ongoing provision of supplies and spare parts – all over the world. In early 2002, trans-Mar-supply GmbH & Co. KG was set up as a joint venture between the shipping companies Jüngerhans and Harren & Partner, in order to pool the purchasing activities of various shipping companies efficiently under one roof. This enables the synergies resulting from the management of an extensive fleet comprising around 150 vessels to be fully exploited, leading to significant cost savings.

Flag

Flag/Registration

The vessel´s registration requires a sound knowledge of the flag state requirements and of general legal aspects. This constantly updated know-how is offered by our legal staff to ensure that all documents are revised on a regular basis in order to avoid unnecessary delays and penalties for ships.

Insurance

Insurance

Growing risks like terrorism and an increasing awareness of environmental issues worldwide lead to a more and more complex structure in marine insurance. Our insurance experts work hard to provide adequate cover at a reasonable price for each vessel. In case of claims this department manages all activities in cooperation with reputable experts and underwriters.

Ship Finance

Ship Finance

This department is responsible for all financial matters relating to the H&P fleet. Drawing up financing concepts, developing an optimised interest-rate and currency strategy, implementing it by means of forward-exchange transactions and interest-rate hedging, as well as cooperating closely with financial institutions is all in a day’s work for this department.

Accounting/Controlling

Accounting/Controlling

The accounting department is responsible for a wide range of services, which include the fleet´s bookkeeping as well as voyage calculations, fund transfers and the issuing of annual reports on each single-ship company. Regular meetings are held every quarter to review the budget for managing the ship and, if necessary, to devise variance analyses and suggest corresponding courses of action.

Marketing/Public Relations

Marketing/Public Relations

The marketing department takes care of the public presentation of the Harren & Partner Group. Making extensive market analyses represents a second important task carried out by our marketing staff. Based on the respective results suitable ship finance concepts including competitive closed-end funds for private investors are developed.

IT

IT

The IT department is responsible for the installation, configuration and maintenance of all PC workstations and communications systems both in the Bremen offices and on board our vessels, as well as the purchase of IT hardware and the daily inspection and maintenance of the H&P-server farm.
